True North Urgent Care was founded by Steve Vander Roest, MD, and Karri Vaughan, PA-C, two trusted local healthcare providers who bring over 50 years of combined board-certified experience caring for our community in emergency medicine and urgent care. Their vision was to create something truly special: an independently owned urgent care that blends high-quality, professional medical care with a welcoming, positive atmosphere for both patients and team members.

Our Founders
Steve Vander Roest, MD
Steve Vander Roest is a board-certified emergency medicine physician with more than 30 years of clinical experience. He has served on the board of Northwestern Michigan Emergency Physicians and has provided dedicated emergency department care to the region for over two decades. Steve lives in Traverse City with his wife, Jen, where they raised their three sons and share their home with several playful dogs. Outside of work, you can find Steve hanging with his family, surfing the waves, and playing hockey.
Karri Vaughan, PA-C
Karri Vaughan is a board-certified physician assistant and accomplished administrative leader with over 20 years of combined clinical and management experience. A Traverse City native, Karri is deeply committed to supporting and improving the well-being of those in her community. She and her husband, Greg, are raising their two sons in Traverse City. In her free time, Karri spends it with her family, their dog, reading, and enjoying whatever the kids are involved in each season.
Get the Care That is Right for You
The goal of True North Urgent Care is to provide you with the highest quality care delivered efficiently and cost effectively. For emergency medical conditions, such as stroke and heart attacks, we recommend going directly to the emergency department. However, if you’re not sure, start with us. If your needs are beyond what can be provided in an urgent care setting, your healthcare professional will facilitate your immediate transfer to the emergency department. True North Urgent Care will send pertinent information in advance of your arrival outlining your care needs.
